Effective government

Effective government

Effective government is an essential component of a healthy, just
society.  Government provides infrastructure and services that cannot be
provided by private enterprise alone.  Government provides a judicial
system that allows our society to function in a civil, equitable, and
sustainable manner.  Government provides coordinated planning and
incentives that help businesses adjust to changing circumstances.
Government provides the means to coordinate actions with other
countries.

Conservative ideology posits that smaller government is the solution.
What we really need is efficient and effective government. To make our
government effective we need to acknowledge the importance of government through
strong, progressive leadership.

The postings below have been tagged as being related to our progressive commitment to effective government.   In some cases we show examples of the good things goverment is accomplishing, in other cases we discuss how government could be more effective by adjusting priorities or becoming more efficient.

Government help who needs it and who dont.

It is getting harder and harder today for many people to get government assistance. So many have taken advantage of the assistance it in now becoming difficult for those who really need it. Who should get assistance?

Homeless in New Orleans

I am attending college in New Orleans. Although I enjoy the college I am going to, I find that the area has a severe poverty level. There are over two hundred people living under a via duct. The smell of urine is everywhere. I went to a city counsil meeting and found out that they had run out of funds. They had put people into hotel rooms, probably because they overreacted to the sight.

Not Your Grandmother's Facism

Consider, if you will, the philosophical implications of evolution. The genetic pool is strengthen through the removal of inferior traits. If the purpose of life is to survive and reproduce, why should competition be considered such a crude term in progressive thinking?

Mount Si High School Day Of Silence Contreversy

At my high school, as some may have heard on the national news, a Rev. Ken Hutchins came to our school to speak at our MLK assembly to provide how Martin Luther King affected him personally as a black man of the 1960's. However, at the beginning of his speech one of our teachers booed him. To me this was unbelievable and I knew nothing of Mr. Hutchinson's backround on protesting gay rights.
