The first reason that came into my head as to why I should not join the army is this: In the years since I initially showed an interest in joining the army I have developed a different persective on the person I am and the world I live in, and my thoughts and ideas on such current political issues as the war in Iraq, genocides in Africa and the middle east, etc. have evolved and taken on a new shape and sharpness of definition. I try to be an upbeat and positive person. Negativity simply takes more effort and energy than I'm willing to expend at any given time. That's usually a good thing, but lately I have decided I simply think too much and should learn to just stubble it once in a while and say screw being positive and upbeat. It's a pain in the ass.

My head hurts, my thumb is broke and I have an infernal twitch in my left eye that will not go away. On top of that, I hate college. With a fiery passion. Really, I do.

I've often pondered if certain individuals dress and act to stand out in order to fit in. It's an amusing concept. The example that could most easily be applied to this notion is that of Goths or Tight-Jeaned, Thick-Glasses-Rims, Punk-Rawkers. Exhibiting a particular persona in order to remove oneself from the crowd, or a mere method of gaining membership into a sub-crowd?

I don't wish to come off as stereotyping certain groups of people, because the idea of individuals truly believing that they are nonconformists from the whole of society (although they may be unconsciously conformists to certain subgroups in society) can be readily applicable to any number of individuals.  Read More »

When I was in high school, I ran for the Cross Country team in the Fall and then ran for the Track and Field Team in the Spring. Unlike other high schools, we did not have separate "Boys" and "Girls" teams - we didn't have enough students to support separate teams.
