Language and framing are two extremely important factors in the ongoing debate between progressives and conservatives in America. Conservatives have seemingly mastered the art of using language to their advantage. We thought about calling this category "How to Talk to Conservatives," because we've all had experiences where it seemed like people were just talking past each other.

However, the problem goes deeper than that. No matter who we are talking to or writing for, we need to learn how to frame our arguments more effectively. This takes understanding and practice, and we'll work on both here.

This is purely a linguistic question here. I definitely don't want to open a can of slimy earth-dwelling invertebrates here by bringing up the abortion debate. I just thought I'd share this observation on the terminology.  Read More »

Vice-versa, the more experience one has with a certain subject the more language he will have to communicate it. Consider, for example, a food critic.  Read More »

The value of a foreign language

The standards expected from students here are simply on a higher level than I could have ever imagined.  Read More »

I am thirty years old. Okay, well, let's be accurate, I will be thirty-one next month.

31 years old, and I feel helpless.

I'm married to a wonderful man who was disabled while serving in the United States Army...

And that's not even my biggest worry, believe it or not...

I received a call a few days ago that my first ever boyfriend, the "love of my life" if you will is dead.  Read More »
