Racism is such a touchy subject- and will probably never be burried. I can understand calling somebody "racist" when they actually practice discrimination... when they call those of another race inappropriate names, or cause harm based solely on the color of somebody's skin, or their dialect. However, I am SICK & TIRED of those who are being "judged" standing up and saying that everybody else is racist... just because (I'll use white, just because we seem to be the most commonly accused) a caucasion person looks at a Hispanic person, or Native American for longer than seems "normal," doesn't mean that they're looking at them in disgust, or for racial reasons. Maybe we're admiring your t-shirt, or your deep brown eyes. Maybe we see beauty in your race. Maybe, just maybe, we get a "vibe" from you that tells us that you're a cool person to be around. MAYBE WE LOOK AT EVERYBODY LIKE THAT!
I come from an area where most of the population is white- however, there are many hispanics in the area too. So, I'm sure I'm not seeing the day-to-day true discrimination. That's not what I'm talking about though... did you guys watch the show "Black/White" or whatever it was called? In that show, during the first episode, the black father & the white father went walking down a busy city street together. The point was for the white man to see the looks that the black man was given... I'm sorry, but along with the white man, I didn't see ANYTHING unusual. He claimed that people were moving over on the sidewalk to avoid him... Yeah, TO AVOID RUNNING INTO ANOTHER PERSON! It didn't look AT ALL like they were scared of being close to him. If I'm in a busy area, I move over for anybody... black, white, russian, chinese... even canine. LoL. It's a respect issue... it's not a matter of "oh, I'm scared your heritage is going to rub off on me." It's common courtesy for parties in both directions to give a little room... whether your both white, or a mixture of races. It's also common courtesy for both parties to smile, or give a little "hello." That smile doesn't mean, "please don't hurt me, I'm scared of your color," it's a simple acknowledgement of existence.
I'm sure this will anger some people, it's just something I had to get off my chest. Pointing a finger and calling such simple acts racist is like, well, the pot calling the kettle black. (No, that's not a racist comment, I just don't know any other sayings that mean the same thing!!)
