Does anyone else feel like this election campaign this year is a bit...out of touch. It's out of touch in the sense that the mainstream media is covering so much of it and portraying it like a reality t.v. show. If you take a look at presidential campaigns about thirty years ago, the media didn't dwell into the candidate's personal lives as much as they do so today. Politics used to be about politics. There was a true and sincere sense of scrupulousness that tied in with the issues being discussed.
Today, people have been disillusioned with the current status of both political parties. The coverage is all about John McCain's POW days, Barack Obama looking like a celebrity, Sarah Palin being a "folksy hockey mom", and Joe Biden...well...being Joe Biden. The media must've spent at least a couple of weeks covering the Spitzer and Edwards scandals, about the same time spent, or maybe less, during the Russia/Georgia crisis which is still not over. The same thing happened with the Reverend Right thing.
These things shouldn't have any significance in our current economy, yet people constantely get these things shoved down their throats through channels like CNN and FOX with headlines that constantley say "Breaking News" or "Developing Story" when in fact...it's not that important. Journalists and reporters buy into this type of stuff and totally ignore the major issues that are taking place. As a person who is studying politics and wants to be a journalist, i need to know the issues that are worth covering, the topics that people are really concerned about.
Breaking News:...not really
