The importance of now

My name is Tinacho. I am 20 years old and I would like to address the issue of now. Being a young person myself I know that generally speaking young people are not always aware of the importance of now. By now I mean the present moment. Now is the time to act. There will never be a moment like now, and so we have a responsibility to act. Often people postpone things in their youth. Whether it be to decide to vote, to decide to be responsible, to make an investment or take a chance with something. This attitude is wrong because moments in time that are lost will never be recaptured. Would Bill Gates be where he was if he postponed his moment? Food for thought.

One flaw I possess is dwelling on previous mistakes. We all do it, but that never takes us anywhere. The past cannot be recreated and it is certainly no guarantee for the future. In the present all we have is now and the future, so dwelling in the past does nothing for our future.

The youth are an important part of society, their active participation in issues has seen change occur in the past and there is no reason why this cannot be the case in future. I call on my fellow youths to not only recognise the importance of now, but to act upon it for a better future!

Opportunity favors the prepared and there is no better time than now to be prepared.
