What would you buy?

A girlfriend asked me what I would buy if I had kids to feed, no job, no food in the house and a mere dollar to my name. I didn't even think about my answer and out popped "I'd buy a squeegee."

It was definitely not what she was expecting to hear. She gave me this really blank look and I shrugged.

"A squeegee?"

"Yeah, a squeegee."

"A squeegee?!" I guess it was really that unbelievable to her, but it made perfect sense to me.

Here's why...

You could run to the store with that dollar and grab a few packs of ramen with which to feed the children; however those few packs of ramen aren't going to satisfy them for long. Once it's gone, you're going to be broke, jobless and worried about where the next meal is coming from.

With a squeegee, however, you can go entreprenurial on the situation and park your behind at the nearest busy intersection to scrub windows like a son of a gun. You won't make much, but by the end of the day, you'll have more than that dollar with which to feed the kids... and you'll still have the squeegee to make a go of feeding them the next day. If you're lucky, you'll eventually have enough to buy a bucket and a sponge and can then turn your squeegee gig into a full blown car washing gig, at which point you have a few more dollars with which to feed the kids and the unemployment situation is, you guessed it, temporarily solved.

No clue if it would work in practice, but it sounds pretty darn good in theory.
:D

So... what would you buy?

Fallon, I think your response trumps anything I could come up with.

I think it's a pretty good answer. Hopefully I'll never have to put it to practice... but it does sound good! :)

That actually makes a lot of sense. It may not be a long term solution if you had to pay rent and food, but it could get you started.

Hah, great answer. However, how much does a squeegee cost? You also have to have water and a bucket of suds.
