They are like a money sucking leech. They will suck you till you are bone-dry. Literally. Just like the leech they are annoying, ugly, and are great impersonators. While leeches are supposed to suck out some of your blood to make you healthy, they borrow from you and make you feel like you are doing the right thing by helping others. That should make your heart feel good. But as you research and see the side effects of these leeches, they will disappear with almost all your finances. Makes your blood want to boil huh?
In referring to leeches I am pertaining to those who are the ones that say they care about you. We define these intellectual people as: FRIENDS, FAMILY, CO-WORKERS ,AND AQUANTINCES. We let them get close to us and our finances because we think they care about us too. We know them really well. They would never double cross us. If we were stuck in a financial situation like them, they would lend us money too right?
These people are put in various categories because they are so repetitive with their financial situation. But beware! They will try to pull the wools over your eyes.
YOU KNOW I’M GOOD FOR IT LEECH- This person is normally a financial destruction on their own. Every time they look around, they are hard up for money. Money has been passed into their hands of debt, and they go spend it on things that graciously take the money they received. You feel sorry for them because it seems that every time you look around, they are doing badly. Doesn’t help that they are annoying about asking for your money too. Their famous saying is “You know I’ m good for it!”
WE ARE FAMILY LEECH- This person hits close to home. They have known you for quit a while. Maybe since you were born, or maybe when you were older. They have supported you in many ways that others have not. They love you more than anybody else. But at times they get in a financial bind. Come on. Give them a few bucks. But don’t expect all of your money to reappear back in your hand. You’ll be lucky if they gave you anything back because they love saying, “ We are family. You know I will pay you back.”
HEY BUDDY! DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP A FRIEND OUT LEECH- . They know either some or all of your secrets. They are there to lean a shoulder on. They expect you to return the favor when it comes to money. You can trust them right? You have been friends with them since childhood or maybe since high school. The way they “bait” you is when they try to make you reminisce on the friendly moments Then they hook you with the line” Help a friend out…” When you give in and say well, they give you a sad face to reel you on in.
CAN YOU LOAN ME SOME MONEY LEECH- This person will not sugar coat that they are in a tight financial spot. They will tell you they just need to borrow it for a little bit but will pay you back. By the time they say they will so call pay you back, you will be celebrating Christmas.
I could sit here and write about many more leeches, but it would take me two more blogs to write about them. The best way to protect yourself from a leech is to get a contract. No it doesn't have to be a performance one you can just get a piece of paper. Write on the paper that you are lending money to this person for this amount on this date. Then you both sign at the bottom. It may be even better to get it notarized too.
But some of us never had the chance to get a contract. We got burned. But thats ok because once you get burned, you don't want your skin to sizzle all over again.
Now it's different if money is given to you and you didn't ask for it. Or if you gave someone money and did not expect it back. Some people are good about paying you back. Others are waiting to make a sucker out of your kindness. Its funny how people will hang around you and care about you when you have money. But when your money runs dry or you don't have the money like you always use too, they run off. Try asking them for money and they get stingy about it and try to dodge you.
