This is my first blog here on progressiveU, and I'll try to make it as informative as possible. Or maybe I mean opinionated.
The other night I listened to Atmosphere's album "When Life Gives You Lemons..." and it struck lots of nerves in me. It is a very good album, contrary to the endorsement of companies like MTV and Zune. Usually, they endorse music that does nothing for you, but this time, in fact lately, they have been endorsing a lot of music that has a lot of meaning. I suggest giving it a listen because it addresses a lot of the problems in today's world, more specifically the problems in the United States.
The song "Dreamer" reminded me of the election specifically because on the ticket, news personalities keep mentioning "the single mom" as an example of who we need to reach with the economy that has been on a downturn. Such is the nature of all economies, but you know we have to fix everything (even if its not broken). We all know teen pregnancy is the biggest thing that is creating single moms. Which is a whole other problem itself, but that can only be solved by education, and a huge reality check to teenagers who still believe that they can live the same way they are now in the future, without their parents seemingly bulging pocketbooks. Anyhow, before I get off topic, I wanted to address the election in its current state.
I like to call Obama endorsers "bandwagon joiners" simply because a lot of them are voting for him just because he is new, and fresh to what we're used to. I see this is a problem however. Obama is a good politician with good intentions for the most part. He is eloquent, and seems to have a little bit of experience as a senator. And as we all know, he loves to brag about his vote against the war from the start. However, its that newness that discourages me. I try not to endorse by party, but I have most of the time stuck on the democratic side, due to my socialist nature. I believe in keeping the money you earn, but you need to share with those of us who don't nor ever will make six figures. If all my dreams came true tomorrow, I'd still be a middle class worker, making only 60,000 at the most as a screenwriter or author. Anywho, it is Obama's inexperience that deters me the most. I have watched him get eaten alive at debates on that basis alone.
I'm not exactly into the race obligation either. Its almost like you're a traitor if you're black and choose not to vote for Obama, which is rather ridiculous. I've always tried to compare Clinton and Obama as if they are both white men. It seems humorous, but if you look at it that way, you might change your mind about who you'd endorse.
Both of the candidates are for changing the large gap between the classes in this country. They fight for the jobs that are leaving, and the current state of our economy. (Side note doesn't anybody find it weird that all of our money is fiat money now?) Atmosphere's cd had a lot of the socioeconomic issues in our country. And personally, I think Clinton is ready, and has hit her stride. She always works well under pressure, which lets me know I made the right choice in endorsing her. Watching her questioning of General Petreus was probably the greatest indicator of her capability to get this war as under control as it can, and maybe even end it. Iraq will be a loss no matter how it ends in my mind, now its just a matter of how bad we lose. The indicator of her ability to work socially with our country is her personal connection in all her speech's lately. She wants to fight for us, and I'm certainly behind her.
A bit of irony is that, Atmosphere endorses Obama. Imagine that (those darn bandwagon jumpers XD)
So, at the dawn of a downturned economy, we need a leader who can repair and better all of the problems Bush has left them. Obama is not ready in my mind. Listen to the Atmosphere cd by the way. It's very good.
