Progressive Facebook, Day Four: The Jesus Button

Yes, folks, you read that right. The Jesus button. I'm sure many of you are familiar with the Staples tradmeark Easy Button, yes? Picture that, but instead of the word 'easy' scrawled across it's shiny surface, it reads 'Jesus.'

An interesting bit of Flair from Facebook, I'd say. I nearly passed it up as the subject for this blog, but I have to admit that it just called me back.

I'm going to begin by letting ya'll know that yes, I am indeed a Christian. But I will also let you know that I have two opinions on the Flair, and how it can be percieved. One I admire and appreciate, the other, well...not so much.

WHen I first gave it some thought, I was like...yeah, I like this. It is easy to accept Jesus into your life as your savior...all you have to do is ask. Not so hard, right? And so I was happy with this Flair.

That is, until I thought about what the easy button does. It gives you what you need in an instant. Just like that. Life is easy and without difficulties when you have an easy button.

Huh. Jesus doesn't make your life easy.He helps you through life's struggles. He's there to support His children and to guide them, not to hand them life on a silver platter. It goes back to the whole "Jesus as the get-out-of-hell-free card" in my mind, and I really don't like it.

However, in my addled mind, I'm probably over-analyzing it. There's not much I can do about it right now, but I must say that despite being half-asleep and partially camatose from an AP Calc test followed by frying in the sun for a tennis tournament (in which my partner and I have advanced!), I am happy that I've been able to have some coherent thoughts to share with ya'll.
