Unless you've been in hiding, I'm pretty sure that you're well aware of the eight students from Lakeland, FL that have been charged with kidnapping and battery, among other charges, for their collective attack on a fellow student. Although the media has covered many aspects of the story, I still have one question.
Where were these teenagers' parents?
I'm not saying that the parents' of these teens have failed. I'm just saying that they've obviously slacked off on their job.
If their parents were really up on their job, I highly doubt this would have happened at all. Unfortunately, people in today's society get so caught up in providing for their families in terms of material things that they forget to mentor theig children. Such mentoring includes teaching them right from wrong. I'm sure that the teens were disciplined-or, were they?
Furthermore, if their parents were truly paying attention to what was going on, don't you think that they would have tried to talk some sense into their respective children and try to convince them that the remarks made towards them should be ignored? If the remarks were that bad, why didn't the families of these teenagers sit down and have a mature discussion about it? Why didn't any school officials see this coming and take steps to alleviate the issue so that this didn't happen? Another important question is this: how did these teens gain access to a house and a video camera so easily for this crime to take place?
The victim's mom has already spoken out and I'm sure that the parents' of these children will eventually come forward with statements of their own. In the meantime, it's sad that the adults involved are members of law enforcement. Perhaps if the parents of today would put forth the effort to instill some type of morality into the minds of their children at all times in their life, we wouldn't use our youth so quickly to such senseless acts of brutality. The parents are losing their youth. While it is up to the individual to control their own actions, it all starts at home.
I Need An Adult!
