Americans are proud of this place we call home.
It's where our ancestors came to start anew from the hardships they had in the past.
They worked hard and developed the beginnings of this nation we call home.
We are proud of them and thankful for living in a free country.
Yet freedom isn't free. It comes at the price of blood, sometimes innocent.
When the settlers moved out west they found Indians,
And decided that they were below them,
So they hunted the people down and slaughtered them.
When mass slavery started people of darker skin
Were beaten and forced to work by the white man.
During World War 2 every person of Japanese decent on the West Coast
Were feared and sent to internment camps.
Martin Luther King, Jr. fought and gave his life,
For the equality of the black man and the white man alike.
He was firm in his beliefs and proud of his heritage.
We as Americans need to ask ourselves how can we be proud of this.
These people did us no wrongs, yet we took all we could from them,
And saw ourselves above them, instead of as equals.
I am proud of where I stand on a country of freedom,
But I am not so proud of some of the things in our history.
So is this what American pride is?
Pride
