Most kids now-a-days don't even try anymore. I know that I am in an honors class for English, and the teacher has 3 honors classes, and 12 are failing out of 40. The kids have potential but they just don't try. They are in the English class because they did well on the 8th grade English MCAS, but they just don't try. It bothers me because no kid in this day and age care about their education, and they don't want to go to college. I just wish that kids tried harder and wanted more for themselves in life.
Why are students not driven?

I really wish this too, but the truth is that kids are more caught up in their social lives or extracurricular activies to be concerned with school. After all, it is mandatory to go to school until you are 16, and this is the only reason some of them attend.
Probably a lot of the kids in your English clas just happened to do well on that test, or figured Honors English would look good on a college transcript. It's probably more of a chore than anything else to attend class, which is unfortunate.
I can't personally say I am completely dedicated to school, but I care about doing well. It's just too bad most people don't.

I really just think it all boils down to laziness and apathy. Kids just don't care anymore, it isn't taught. Sad, isn't it?
My choir teacher has made this point a few times in class and I think it's so true and can apply to all of our school classes. We don't focus or try hard enough in our classes because we are so used to just being able to get information so fast through the internet and also communicate in minutes or seconds through texting and such. We are tired and impatient of actual book learning due to our fast-paced technological world. At least that's what I think our world has come to. I could be totally wrong and students are just becoming lazy and want to get the easy way out of life and just win the lottery instead of working hard for an income later in life. Either way it turns out, kids in school are not working as hard as they should.

I think that there are kids that care about their education. Flunking a class never killed anyone. Everyone should also remember that there is more to life than education, and that college isn't for everyone. It would be great if everyone went to college and had a big, educated career, but this isn't the case.
