Progress has many meaning to each individual and it has also been taught with different definitions behind that idea. All in all, the word 'progress' represents the act of moving forward. As students, we have been taught that progress can be anything to a new scientific break through to points of time in history. Scientific breakthroughs and new technology is a no brainer 'progressive' to our society, but history? How is our past related to 'progress'?
Recently while attending some history lectures, Progressivism was brought to the table. The thoughts and ideas of the Progressives were polled together into what is known as the Progressive political party. Their thoughts and ideas were all based on moving America forward, looking to the future, and always working towards something better.
Based on what I've experienced through learning and observing, my own personal definition of 'progress' means to work forward to something better. This explanation is vague enough for me to apply it to all aspects of my life. If I'm on a diet, it's a progressive act since I'm working on the body I have now to something better; studying for classes, I'm working towards the goal of acquiring new knowledge and to do well on an upcoming class; for my future, I'm working to ensure that later on my plan for my life will become true. In of all these examples my key word is to 'work'. Nothing is free in reality, work needs to be done in order to move forward in all aspects of life which causes what is known to me as 'progress'.
