I wrote this about a friend and ex who is in the United States Marines. He is one of my best friends. I know that us breaking up was my fault even if he says it wasn't. I'm not perfect and I don't pretend to be. We are just friends now. Sometimes I miss him other times I'm happy we aren't together. I still talk to his mom all the time. I still talk to him all the time. I'm worried about him. He goes to Iraq in September or October. Everytime I talk to him I get more worried. He's just now coming to the realization that he's going to Iraq and if he doesn't shoot them first, they won't hesitate to kill him or his squad. I just hope he will be alright.
The Marine
He's the one in the dress blues
He's the one standing at attention
He's the one standing there with my heart in his hand.
He was here for awhile.
He left to become a U.S. Marine.
When he came back, it broke his heart to see her with someone new.
That someone new was me trying to hide my feelings for a U.S. Marine
The hardest thing I did was telling him I didn't love him.
The worst thing I did was lie to him.
He knows what I'm thinking
He knows everything about me
He knows the right thing to say
He's the one so far away
He's the brave one
He's the one in the dress blues
He's the one at attention
He's the one who follows orders, no questions asked
He's the one standing there with my heart in his hand.
