Can anyone help me? I'm a noob!

Yeah so I'm still pretty new here. I signed up about 3 weeks ago. I found this website via FastWeb and I saw that I could possibly win a scholarship for blogging. I was like "SIGN ME UP! I LOVE BLOGGING!" So technically, I've been a member for about 3 weeks, but technically I didn't START until Easter, and I'm all alone in this big, wide web with no friends to help me or answer my questions. :(

Help me? Please?

I need to know what the relevant progressive principles are. What is their purpose? What do they mean? Broad Prosperity? What is that? What are these for? Are they categories of some sort? Why are there so few of them? I have no idea what they mean by these. It troubles and confuses me.

So yeah. It really bothers me when I don't know things, so knowing this will really help me keep my sanity; which, in turn, will help the world become a better place because I will not have to wreak havoc upon it.

Also, anything else anyone can tell me will be MUCH appreciated. Help out a poor newbie, and remember... you were once a noob too!

Also, I need to know stuff like... what are relevant topics to blog on? Can I blog on pretty much anything? Are the blogs I have now relevant? Do they count toward the contest? Where do I go for questions about this whole scholarship thing? I'm so confused! Will no one help me?

Also, what is the importance of getting a large group of readers, or a fan base, so to speak?

ANY kind of iunformation or tidbits about the website would be VERY USEFUL to me, and I would be EXTREMELY APPRECIATIVE to anyone willing to let me pick their brains for information about the website for a bit. If there's ANYTHING important that I should know about, please let me know?

thanks
Kaitlyn

Hi Kaitlyn!

Welcome to the site.

All of your questions can be answered in the FAQ: http://www.progressiveu.org/BFP_FAQ. I would suggest exploring the FAQ page and these pages:

To answer a few of your questions:

"I need to know what the relevant progressive principles are. What is their purpose? What do they mean? Broad Prosperity? What is that? What are these for? Are they categories of some sort? Why are there so few of them? I have no idea what they mean by these. It troubles and confuses me."

Every blog you post needs to fall under one of the progressive categories listed to count for the scholarship contest. That means that what you write about has to be able to be categorized by one of the principles.

You're pretty open with how you decide to use them :)

"what are relevant topics to blog on? Can I blog on pretty much anything? Are the blogs I have now relevant? Do they count toward the contest?"

Your blogs should be progressive. Don't blog about how you went on a walk with your dog or got in a fight with your boyfriend unless you can find some way to make it relevant.

At the end of the contest, the mods and directors will go through the top contenders in the contest and make sure every single one of the blogs is "progressive" and that all blogs and comments follow all of the rules and can be counted for points in the scholarship contest. That way it's fair for everyone :)

"Will no one help me?"

Of course someone will help you! Most active bloggers are more than willing to lend a helping hand, and if you can't get the advice you're looking for from them, flag down a faculty member (who have badges like mine) or a member of the Alumni Association (who have the ProgressiveU logo as a badge). We're all happy to answer any questions.

"Also, what is the importance of getting a large group of readers, or a fan base, so to speak?"

The more readers you have, the more read-points you get. You also get more comments and more active conversations happening through your blog and through other threads.

The winners of the contest in the past have not won based on how many blogs they post. They've won based on how active they were in commenting or how many read points they had.

If people like your writing, you'll get more reads. :)

Usually you won't get comments this detailed. Be sure to read through the rules, the FAQs, and the forums. They'll be a great help to you.

Good luck, and happy blogging!

By simply glancing at your blogs, they look progressive, and you'll most likely get points for them. Welcome to the site, and feel free to ask any other questions you might have. And thanks for using the forums :D
