I believe playing outdoors is a lost activity to the newer generations. As parents worry more and more about their children’s safety I believe they are loosing sight of the benefits children gain from being allowed to run around the neighborhood with friends. Parents should be aware that their children are out and around but giving freedom allows kids to learn responsibility as well as stay in shape and keep their imaginations sharp. I remember when I was little I didn’t rely on videogames and the television to keep me occupied. I loved hanging out with the neighborhood kids and playing a game of kickball in the backyard or playing "house" in the shed. Even from my generation to my parent’s generation it is obvious how the freedom parents allow their children has changed. I have heard stories from my dad about how he and his friends were allowed to run through neighbor’s yards and all over the neighborhood playing kick the can. It seems like because kids have lost this freedom that they are also loosing the creativity that many kids used to rely on for fun. When I have kids I would be devastated if they didn’t get the opportunity to play outside and use their imaginations to create fun and captivating games.
