Here we go again. I am so torn. With all the corruption that has mired this government for the last 7 years, we need a flip to check the power that was. There are so many unanswered questions. The democrats are the logical choice to begin the answering of them. But as this nomination process is going through turmoil. With Hillary looking to swing Michigan into the mix, and Florida somewhere in the noise. After Barak has been dodging bullets with the latest of his pastor. I am becoming more and more a supporter of Nader. I didn't vote for him last time, due to similar reasons now. I want so much to believe that we could get a third party or even end the two party system altogether. But, these republicans of current are using the constitution as sanitation paper. I want so bad to vote for Nader, but I don't want McCain as our new leader. If there were only guarantees in this brave new world.
Well said.
If you're a 2-Party System skeptic, this site will further your fascination with the abomination--third party support! http://www.votenader.org/issues/
Are any of these issues your issues? Have the Democratic and Republican parties taken your issues off the table for political gain?
It's about more voices in our democracy. It's about the issues. It's about more choices.

I would love to see a female president. I'm dying to see a female president. I think Hillary would have made a great president; but I don't think now is the time for her. First of all I don't agree with her standing by her husband Billy boy while he boinked Monica. I would have dropped his ass. I think she probably would have if there wasn't money and power involved. I want a strong president, who will do what is right and lead this country into a better future. I consider myself to be independent and I like things that both parties bring to the table.
It's a bummer that one mistake turns our thoughts of Bill Clinton sour, regardless of anything positive that he did. So he cheated on his wife? Yeah, that's really bad, but so did Martin Luther King - does that mean we should stop standing by him? I think it speaks of Hillary to stay with him, even if it is only political.
I agree, though, I don't think that now is the time for Hillary Clinton.

Since I don't like any of the candidates still standing, I will be voting for a third party candidate.
My way of throwing away my vote.
Ralph Nader '08

How is that accomplishing anything? Voting is considered a civic duty, but it's honestly a privilege. Why throw away your vote (as you phrased it), when you can prevent another warhawk from becoming president? Lesser of two evils...Besides, are there truly any honest politicians left on Capitol Hill? Please don't tell me Dennis Kucinich or Russ Feingold.

Please enlighten me: what about Kucinich's character leads you to think he's dishonest?
Sustainably yers, http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/green-underbelly
So far, there's nothing on Kucinich's record to blacken his name, but he is the champion of those who glorify government. I bear a natural distrust of politicians. To be optimistic, hopefully there won't be any scandal exposed about him later on.

I believe natural cynicism in government is an American instinct.
I hope that when you become a political activist, or if you already are, you'll be the light at the end of the tunnel, like Kucinich is for me. And I'm not even from Ohio!

Although I hold personal opinions, the only thing I'm a major advocate of involving politics is awareness. Citizens should be aware of the political happenings around them, even if the happenings don't have a direct effect on their lives. But joining government...? People don't swim in cesspools. The government of today is mostly a bureaucracy, and those who benefit are the ones becoming politicians. There is always a possibility of change (which is why Barack Obama has my vote), but becoming there aren't many who are willing to become true martyrs for that cause.

What did I answer yes/no to? That I thought about the fact that there are like 7 black people and 12 women and 2 Nazis running for president? Or that I know about them?

Yes or No-- do you support any 3rd party candidates. ProU didn't edit my poll question, which in all honesty, they probably should have. Shux
Sustainably yers, http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/green-underbelly
Oh! Then no, I don't support any of them in the upcoming election because the ones that I've looked at (over 100 of them) don't seem to be in alignment with my ideals.
Nick
RAmen
Well that's reasonable. Go forward with a vote that matches your ideals and you've done well, in my opinion.
Sustainably yers, http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/green-underbelly
I'm voting for most of the desirable traits in the candidates since none will be Pro-Choice, Pro-Death Penalty, and Anti-Gun Control and Anti-Illegals, Ambivalent towards drugs, ....I'm too opinionated.
Nick

I'm surprised that none of the 100+ candidates you reviewed didn't fall under those categories.
That's an interesting set of opinions, though. Certainly they don't fall under a party ideology, except your own of course.

haha, someone that knows what im talking about. it seems that everyone is always disagreeing with me at my school...
I support 3rd party candidates. However, at this point I believe I will have to vote all Democrat, because otherwise it will be 2000 all over again, and I can't have McCain in office now! We need to have a thinker in office, and then maybe next time around we'll have the power to put a green candidate in office.

This is going to sound hard core cynical, but the only people who vote for Ralph Nader are Naderites. He isn't exactly the ideal third-party candidate. In addition, if Nader had not run in the 2000 election, Gore would've won Florida. And in the political process, it's honestly voting for the lesser of two evils...Not the third-party nobody (excuse my bluntness) who doesn't stand a chance. There will always be a minority, the Ron Pauls and Mike Gravels of America, but I don't see how they serve a purpose except to express a vague, "I refuse to have an opinion" vote.

This I agree, if Nader were serious about true change in this political system he would front candidates on local elections nationwide. So far all he has done is incite derision among the base that is the most important for social progressivism. While I don't necessarily agree that the minority party vote is a waste. I do feel frustration from the events of the last two presidential elections. Now is time, just like yesterday, and tomorrow the same.

"it's honestly voting for the lesser of two evils..."
You can subscribe to weakness, but pardon people who vote for the candidate who represents them in a democracy.
Sustainably yers, http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/green-underbelly
I would love for Ron Paul to become president but if I vote for him, it will take away from Obama's vote count. I think that you have to vote based on politics, but also the ability to win.

Voting should be based on an individuals values and ideals but electability should also be taken into account. I'm not saying you should compromise all of your values but sometimes you need to pick the candidate that not only agrees with most of your ideals but also will have a high enough approval rating to get things done.
i wonder if our country would run the same if it had three parties, and what do u think there policies would be. we've already got democrats-socialist and rebuplican-free market
If our country was more receptive to third parties, I would imagine America would be a lot more like Britain. The votes aren't really split any differently, because despite the multiple-party system, Britons tend to vote Labour or Conservative. Thus, those two parties emerge as dominant and win the most elections. In fact...I don't think I can think of a time when a minority party has won an election in Britain.
Are you saying that America has Democrats with socialist policies, or Socialist Democrats? The former is a stereotype (probably created by Fox News) and the latter is a political party of Germany. As for Republicans being free-market, that follows party lines more than anything. Most Republicans can be sorted as socially or fiscally conservative, and the free-market variety fall under fiscal conservatives.

I think proportional representation would make us more democratic. It would allow for the third party systems to enter the playing field.
