To Russia with love!

Some of you might know that Russia just had their elections. Some of you might not. I question whether most of the European Nationals knew that Russia was having an election.

In a country where we know who our candidates are and most of us know what they stand for, Russia is a country that had a man running for election (if that's what you want to call it) that I doubt knew who he was. It was as if he was a shoe-in for Putin. He was the chosen successor. Wait .. is that an election then? If you are a chosen successor, does that make it an election? I thought an election was an organized process where voters decide who will be the next ruler. Oops, did I say ruler? I meant president. Yeah.

"This election was no cliff-hanger. Medvedev received nearly 70 per cent of the vote. His nearest rival, Gennady Zyuganov, a Communist Party leader, mustered a mere 17 per cent." says the Australian Herald Sun. The Tehran Times called it a landslide victory. For us Californians that terminology would be similar to a house that slides off its land, but certainly not to its victory.

Don't get me wrong...Russians are enjoying the benefits of the economic boom which Putin had provided for them during his reign. Or are they?

Putin has been doing a dance in the popularity contest, but some are now questioning his intentions.

The question of the day is: how do you think all this will effect the US? and has it already?
