This is my first post as I am a new member. I feel there are so many topics I wish to discuss but I don't know how to start.
I figured this would be a good topic as it has been on my mind all day.
I come from a family that identifies with the Republican party and conservative ideals. I myself don't identify with a party, though I often agree with the conservative point of view. Either way, my political affiliation is irrelevant. What concerns me is how ignorant and close-minded my family is. I fear it is due in great part to the fact that they never received a higher education, and the only point of view they know is their own. They make comments that are racist or homophobic and I don't think they know that they are against the status quo or politically incorrect.
I am not sure if this is common to others in my age range. I would love to discuss this more and I don't have enough time now to do the topic justice. It just really irks me. I love every member of my family dearly, and I appreciate the fact that we often have different points of view on issues. It is just so hard to listen to some of the things they say without asking if they realize how offensive they are. It just saddens me. I would never want them to indirectly offend others, but I'm coming to realize that when I am not there, it is quite possible that they do.
