Prom: Useless or a Wonderful tradition

Prom is almost here for me at North Valley's High School and I am still without a date. To be honest, I have not been looking. I am a senior this year and did not attend my junior prom. To me, it seemed like a waste of life. I do not like the music, the tickets are 50+ dollars, and the company you keep can usually be considered mediocre at best. I hate the drama and I cannot stand seeing people actually cry or get upset at one of these functions. You actually paid 50 dollars to come to a dance and get upset because your date is dancing with someone else or whatever the case may be. I cannot believe it. Why would someone subject themselves to this?

On the other hand, I still have those who tell me that Prom is necessary and you need a date and its a beautiful tradition. I can see how it would be nice to have one last big party with your friends and I know it is nice to get dressed up for the occasion, but what is the real point. I simply cannot wrap my mind around this. This concept of dance attendance. It almost feels mandatory. I find this all so ridiculous. And, why is a date considered necessary? Who needs that kind of pressure. Anyway, I digress.

Let me know what you think:

Prom: Take it or Leave it?
