11. How are state laws passed, and how can citizens take part in the lawmaking process?

13. How do local governments serve their people?
14. What kinds of governments are found in cities and countries?
15. Why are campaigns expensive, and how do candidates pay for them?
16. What can the President do with a bill that has been passed by Congress?
17. Why are compromises necessary in order to pass laws?
18. Why do some people not vote?

20. How are dicisions about government spending made?

Please, Please, Please, Please, Please help me out. I'm so stuck and work progress is slow.
I have some answers to the questions above but they are more like my opinions or what I know about them from previous classes. I have to site my sources and I don't remember what my sources were, therefore, I have to refind the answers w/sources and I can't find them. If you know the answer please SITE THE SOURVE too. I would REALLY apprieciate all of your help. Of course, I'll be searching for the answers too.

Not that I'm an administrator for the site and I can do anything about the situation, but I'd advise you to not do a blog entry like this ever again. You're asking people to do your work. Do you see how this can look to someone else?

However, if you really are having trouble, i'd say start looking at sources you hadn't considered before. Check out a program on Discovery channel that seems to fit the topic, or look some of these things up in an encyclopedia. Even better--ask your teacher for help.

Some of the answers look like they could be opinion, or just previous knowledge, like "why do some people not vote?". Well, why do you think that some people don't vote? Do they not like the candidates? Do they never vote because they think their vote doesn't matter?

And then there's "Who pays taxes and why". Surely you can answer this without a book.

This comment was not meant to bash you in any way, shape, or form. You just need to know that Progressive U isn't the place for this type of post.

Copy and paste your questions (without the numbers) into the Google search engine (google.com). I did so for the first three for you; you can click on the link below each question to go to the Google results page.

How do lobbyists influence lawmakers?
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mo...

Who pays taxes and why?
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mo...

Where does tax money go?
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mo...

If typing in the question exactly doesn't pull up what you need, try typing in just the keywords (and add a US if you have too) or reordering the question. (Ie: Why do people not vote could be What reasons do people have for not voting? or How many people don't vote and why?)

Once you've had a chance to read through the responses here, I'm going to move this to the forums because this isn't really a blog post and if we allow it this time, we will inevitably have people that demand we allow it during contest periods when each blog post is worth 50 points... and that's not really fair.

That is EXACTLY what I was going to suggest.

I'd think of going to dogpile or google LONG before going t oa blog post to answer questions.

I've never used dogpile before, but I've never had a problem finding what I need on Google. You just have to know what terms to search for and you're good to go.

They're essentially the same thing, but dogpile searches google and many other search engines all at once.

Google is run by some liberal people, and they have had issues with their news section NOT reporting links that conservative news groups put out and also having quick links to stories about President Bush if you type in 'retarded' or something like that (I don't remmeber, I stopped caring long ago) . . There is also the issue with their special banners (like the one for Leggos in the last day or two). . . celebrating MLK Jr.'s birthday, but not Veterans Day or President's day, claiming that their banners are just for jovial things. (I guess MLK Jr. Day and Arbor day are jokes to google.)

These events led a few conservatives to start pushing dogpile... which is how I heard about it.

There are things I can't find on Google if I'm looking for something specific.... specfically if it is gun law related.

I learned about it in school, actually. I just like the fact that it searches Google, Yahoo, MSN, and a number of others, so it comes up with more hits.

6) They protect the US by wiretapping your house because you could be a terrorist and not know it. They also have been known to put LSD into the drinking water to attempt to create a mind control device to get rid of the terrorists.

Me too! I think Nick should offer us fancy dinners for letting him on the faculty. Dance!

I'll pitch in as well...

3. To pay for five star hotel rooms for government officials, and to provide people who don't work with food and housing.

It's only 5-star if they pay the extra out of their own pocket. Most of the time, per diem isn't enough to pay for a 3-star hotel, plus food.

I've never seen pictures of the president leaving a Motel 6 before, but I'm sure that is the case for most of the typical employees.

*singsong* reply link....

My mother is a government employee. She gets a per diem when she's not at home. The only time she's stayed in a 5-star hotel was when she went overseas, and the hotel gave a government rate that was within her per diem. Else, she had to pay it all by herself.

You do pay the President's salary. But that doesn't mean you pay for every luxury he has... they typically come to the office pretty rich anyway.

Oops, I don't know why I didn't use the reply. You're right, they are really rich when they get there, but I would still like to see the President riding in a bulletproof Ford Taurus or something instead of a limo. I don't think the overspending is as big as a problem until you get to the bigger, higher up offices. I think my last reply was kinda confusing once I re-read it today. I believe that the majority of the federal employees traveling on business probably don't stay in five-star hotels (unless they get the discount rate), but some of the higher up government officials could cut back funding by not staying in really expensive ones. Once again- there is a counterargument to that. I'm sure some of these hotels are donating rooms. I'd probably let the President stay in my hotel just for publicity if I had one.
