Constitution - Amendment 7

Here's the 7th Amendment of the series on the Bill of Rights. by my count, my last post in this series will be the day after Christmas!

Amendment 7 -

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

In the past, people did NOT have a right to a trial by jury for any real reason.  As we discussed yesterday, courts were often filled with corruption.  This Amendment allows not only that trial by jury for common law cases, but also guarentees that anything tried by a jury for common law cases cannot be re-examined by any court, except where common law already allows it.

This was a strong blow against corruption.  This allows people to live free, without worry about constant harrassment by any other private group or entity.

Misuse:  There is not much in the way of misuse on this Amendment.  The ACLU's constant harrassment of the Boy Scouts does come to mind, but although they are constantly harrassing the Boy Scouts, they are not doing so illegally.  Each Lawsuit is over a different issue, or they are suing a different branch of the Boy Scouts.  On Private Entity vs. Private Entity issues, the United States of America is still one of the (if not the most) fairest countries in the world.

For that, I am thankful to God, our Founding Fathers, and those conservatives who are strong enough to fight the socialist influence.
