Why does our society frown upon same-sex couples when they are male, yet almost encourage female same sex couples?
I do not understand why men are persacuted for having a significant other of the same gender while females are some what encouraged. It seems rediculous to me.
Of course when a female same-sex couple begins to talk of a relationship out side of physical it is suddenly discouraged.
I think it is ridiculous. Love is just love. People tend to think of relationships in terms of sex, but what about love?
This is one of the many unfortunate double standards in society. If a man stands his ground, he's macho. If a woman does it, she must have PMS. It sucks, but it's part of the world that we have to deal with and work to change at this time. I think things are looking up, though.

This question gets right to he heart of feminist theory, actually. It all has to do with subverting the patriarchy. Women who love women subvert male sexual dominance by removing themselves from sexual availability, but then men still think lesbians are sexual objects performing for their pleasure. By objectifying lesbians ("hey, will you girls kiss for us?"), we remain under patriarchal dominance (at least, in their minds). Men who love men are just doing it wrong (I don't believe this...in this theoretical model, this is the issue people have with gay men). Gay men are sex traitors, because the role of the man is to seek women, and if men remove themselves from that equation, they betray the club. Their defection from the patriarchy weakens the club's power (Again, I don't believe this...). Also, because according to the patriarchy, women are sexual objects, anyone who has sex with a man becomes equal to women. Gay men are feminized by making themselves the sexual object of another man.
It's a whole bunch of bullshit that basically says this:

Yes and no. I actually used that phrase earlier in class today when one of my students asked for a new piece of glassware they had broken. I replied with "Sure...PSYCHE!" They were rolling. There's just something about that word that's funny. It's up there with gnarly, adding "not" to the end of everything, and "Your Mom". I think I even tagged a blog with "Your Mom" a few days ago.

Yeah, I guess so! Forgive me, it must be the ADD setting in. It makes my thoughts a little (extremely) random like that. One side effect of little to no sleep- forgetting to take meds. Not good on the thought process.
