Picking a college is tough, trust me I know. I'm a senior in high school & am just starting to apply. It wasnt easy to make a decision. I decided to apply to Boston University. If you have any questions about this school or need any advice, just ask....I would be happy to help!
When starting to pick colleges trust me get as many as those college books as you can from your guidance office. It shows you so many colleges, you probably never looked into. Start searching some you are interested in. If you can, go on their web-sites, or call them to get brochures. Think about your intersts; sports, extracurricular, greek life, dorms............& narrow the selection. Look into majors, then look into the colleges that have that major, and maybe other majors you are interested in too, in case you might change your mind down the road.
Whats realistic? What are your grades.......Find out your GPA & class rank, look into the requirements of colleges & the percentage of students that get accepted. Look into the tuition, but dont put it at the top of the list. Trust me I'm not rich, but there are so many scholarships, grants and financial help out there & when it comes down to it, loans. Yes LOANS, a dreaded word but really if you plan in becoming succesful & think the school will get you there, its worth it & you will have money to pay for it after school.
Also keep in mind how independent you are. Dont go so far away from home if you cant really do for yourself. Because your parents aren't going to go all the way to help you. In college youre on your own, so pick comfortable enviroments. Think about if you want small class sizes or large classes. Think about you high school & its size.
When you narrow your colleges down, Visit. It will give you a better perspective. If you cant get there, maybe hitch a ride with friends or take Amtrak they have a program that if you visit a college you get one ticket free.
Take the SAT & ACT, because most colleges accept either or. If you dont do so good the first time, dont hesitate to take them again.
