Today in AP Govt, we took a test to find our general political stances. I got liberal, surprise, surprise. One of the questions happened to be about abortion restrictions. In my little group, once the test was done, talked about abortion. We had two pro-lifes, three pro-choice with restrictions, and one pro-choice all out (guess who). Our basic conversation was as thus:
PL1: Don't even get me started about abortion...
PCR1: Is anyone here pro-choice?
*choicers raise their hands*
PCR2: I have a strange position. I'm pro-choice, but I think every life should be born.
Me: Well, you can have that opinion, it's perfectly fine.
PCR1: I think a woman should have a choice, especially if she was raped.
Me: I think she should have a choice, regardless of the circumstances.
PL2: Hey... I have my '24 for Life' shirt on...
All: Huh?
PL2: My church is doing a 24 hour prayer and (something else) against abortion.
PCR1: So your anti-abortion?
PL2: Yeah.
Me: Cute shirt
((Yes, actually commenting on the life shirt. The irony was the crosshairs on it))
We never actually got into debating it, because there was so little time, but we all agreed that we can't force our believes on other people. My class is awesome like that. Well, that little front part is pretty awesome, we're all generally accepting of each others beliefs. I wish more of America was like our little eight person group.
'An idea you can change, but a belief is solid. People kill over their beliefs...'- Dogma.
