Some of us have pictures as the icon on the right. Since most people have been telling me that looks matter these days, I decided to judge people plainly by their images.
First, those people who actually put up their real faces are confident about their appearance. They want people to read their blogs and remember their faces. Perhaps one day, you will bump into people here on the streets and say, "Hey you! You're from progressiveu! Muahaha." Some people have shots of their faces angle in an abnormal way, like me for example. It might be cool for them. Or they want just a part of their face to be in it because they are still not confident enough to show the full face. Lightings on the picture also symbolizes something. Sometimes it seems like you're hiding behind your own photo.
Second, those who have other pictures (such as cartoons, pets or nature) do not want other people to see their faces or they don't have a picture on the computer. Then again, I find some people who have these images...have their own faces on their myspace or something. I guess it's different because you're connected with most of your friends through myspace. Your friends already know what you look like so you don't have problem putting your pictures on myspace. But progressiveu is made up of strangers who do not know you and how you look like. Maybe you're taking this opportunity to have a new identity. It can also be a character that will represent yourself to the site community...in a comedic way. I'm thinking about Darth Vader, you? Oh, a people with nature scene, it might be a scene you feel most comfortable with. Then again, it might be that you couldn't find any great pictures but wanted to put something in.
Third, people who have no picture at all are just plain lazy. They don't believe in showing any image to represent themselves. They came here solely to blog but thinking about giving up half way because it's too much work.
I just realized I'm being very general about my assumptions. I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm simply "judging a book by its cover." Is it only me or people these days judge you on your pictures too? I mean, myspace (I feel like picking on myspace today...sorry Tom) for example. Some people add you randomly based on how well you look. Why is that? Can you really tell a lot by the "looks"?
