The United States is a great country, and a great place to
live.  At the same time, we believe we can always continue to make it
better.  It is a mistake to think that things were better in the past, and
that we can therefore right all wrongs by returning to past traditions.  It
is also a mistake to believe that protecting the status quo is an acceptable
compromise.  The world changes, whether we like it or not, and communities
and societies that proactively recognize change, find solutions to new problems,
and then adjust rapidly are the ones that are most successful.
