The Unknown about foster parenting. . .
There are so many great foster parents out there. Is this a coincidence? Well no! On average most foster parents are paid anywhere from 7,000-40,000; I know this information through people in my family. Does this surprise you? Is it fair? A multitude of questions and thoughts most come into mind thinking about foster parents. But is it right to pay foster parents. Do some people adopt to get out of a hard place?
I feel the adoption process is very “unique”. So you plan to adopt a child; your current family is evaluated to see if you are fit for an addition. The family passes the series of test and evaluations and after some paperwork and things you are approved and ready to receive the child. But should you be paid to get a child? Well yes and no. Paying parents to be is a great thing for standing up and taking on such a responsibility but what about the millions of others that decide to have children. Truthfully the paying process is okay it needs a better reason and why that my sound cliché a reward of this amount is very hard to swallow to other deserving parents. There are many parents that bear children who are great parents and deserve pay. Yes they decide to have children but so do foster parents. Foster parents can only adopt if it appears they can fully support the child until age 18. . . So why should they get paid? Payment for adopting is a great idea but should be severely cut unless they plan to pay “regular good” parents. I think 10,000 dollars should be the maximum amount and I feel the money should be kept until emergencies or unknown health concerns arise.
What do you think?
