Pray the Rosary!
The Feast of “Our Lady of the Rosary” – October 7th
"And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." - Luke 1: 41-42
There is so much to say about The Blessed Mother that I don’t know where to start. Today, October 7th, is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. This an extremely important feast in the history of the Catholic Church because the Rosary is the second most important prayer in the history of the Catholic Church. If you would like to learn more about the history of the Rosary and where it originated and also how to pray it, go to http://www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/prayers/rosary/. I’m not very good at explaining something this important, so I invite you to go to this website and learn more about it.
Some think that praying to Mary is like worshipping her; that we should only pray to God. Other say that “Mary was just an instrument of God; we don’t need to focus so much on her.” Some people think that Catholics worship Mary, which is not the case at all. We honor her as the Mother of God, and ask her to pray for us. That is also why we pray to the other saints. We are all brother and sisters in Christ, and just as we ask our friends on earth to pray for us, we ask those in Heaven to pray for us, because they are indeed still alive. What about when we talk to our family who have died, why not ask them to pray for us? Just like they are our family, the other saints are too, because we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, and what better way to pray, then to ask our family to pray for us? Of course we still pray to God, because God is God and he is Our Creator, and we owe everything to Him, but when we ask the saints to pray for us, we are asking someone who is in Heaven with Jesus, and the prayers are so much more powerful, because we are not only asking the saints, but we are asking God at the same time. SO, we pray to a saint, such as Mary the Mother of God, and God hears us and knows how much we love him, and then the saint prays for us, so the prayer is even more powerful! Oh what a wonderful thing!
And what better person to ask for intercession, than the Mother of Jesus? Anything that Mary ever asked of Jesus, Jesus did, and when we ask Mary to pray for us, she asks Jesus for us. Jesus never refuses his Mother. This doesn't mean that EVERYTHING we want will be granted to us in the way that we want it, but it will only happen in accordance to God's Will. Also, We cannot just ignore the Mother of Jesus, because she is Jesus’ Mother, and Jesus is our brother, is he not? So that would make her our Mother, just as Jesus is our brother.
The Rosary is the most wonderful prayer in honor of Our Lady. Mary gave to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan and told them of the 15 Promises that she has made to all those who are devoted to the Rosary. Go to http://www.2heartsnetwork.org/promises.htm to learn of these Promises. Mary has certainly kept these promises, and many, many miracles have come about through this wonderful prayer. For examples of Rosary miracles, go to http://thecatholicrosary.blogspot.com/2006/02/rosary-miracles.html.
Mary has also helped me more than I could ever describe. Over the past year, I have been going through a lot of hard times, and the Rosary was the only prayer that could truly console me. Anytime I become worried, depressed, etc., I pray the Rosary. This prayer helps me more than anyone could help me. I don’t know what I would do without it.
Even if you don’t believe in praying this truly remarkable prayer, given to us by The Blessed Mother herself, please, I still invite you to learn more about it. Don’t be closed-minded, because you may find out that you have been missing out on something that will change your life forever. I know it changed mine.
So learn more about Mary, the Mother of God and if you are already Catholic, pray the Rosary everyday. Not just for yourself, but for the conversion of sinners and of the world. It has been said that if 10% of Catholics in our country prayed the Rosary everyday, then our country would be converted. Now how wonderful would that be? So go pray the Rosary! J And if you don’t know how, I invite you to learn. I promise you, it will change your life forever.
