What is blogging really for? I realized lately that how I view the benefit of blogging is quite different from the opinion of many others. I like to write my posts as open-ended questions, with a topic and some interesting information -- ultimately something that I hope will be thought-provoking. I realized when reading other people's comments and posts that they subscribe to a different type of blogging -- the staunch advocation of certain ideas. I know that I personally don't read blogs to have someone try and sell me their position. I personally like to see blogging as a way to get the individual voice heard to encourage thought and the respectful exchange of ideas.
When I wrote my post about international auxiliary languages, I received many comments from posters trying to sell Esperanto but that's not what my personal blog is for. I will continue to explore my own thoughts and try to encourage others to do the same. From now on, I request respectful discourse with reactions to the thoughts of others, or expressions of your own thoughts, but please do not comment on my posts trying to shove something on the readers. You will not see me writing in "rant-style" because I don't think that type of expression is very helpful or progressive, and I request that you do not post such comments on my blogs. I do encourage dissident thought, however. So feel free and let me know: what is blogging really for? How do you think it is most effective?
