So I've been reading up on this Discovery Channel "Tomb of Jesus" and I was having a discussion with my friend about it. She seemed surprised at my comment that definitive proof Jesus' remains would take the rug out from under Christianity's feet. She was very surprised about this comment.
Is this not true? I mean, I've read the Bible twice and I know what Jesus said. He said that he would rise from the dead. If He didn't rise from the dead then He is a liar. So how can we believe anything else He said? He said that He was the Son of God and that His death AND resurrection would bring about the salvation of mankind. If there is definitive proof of Jesus' remains, that means that he didn't raise from the dead and ascend into Heaven.
Of course, the operative word in the previous sentence is of course "definitive." I personally don't know how they could prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that any remains they find are that of Jesus Chirst. But if that is somehow possible, wouldn't it basically be proving that Jesus is a liar? I mean, my friend replied with, "I wouldn't let some scientific discovery disprove my religion!"
.... Excuse me? I understand being a strong Christian and such, but you cannot deny the fact that science does hold some clout. Shouldn't religion be founded on reasonable belief and not just blind acceptance? I don't think they can really prove anything with the Jesus thing, but if they do it will definitely prove troublesome for the Christian faith.
