Donald Trump, co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization, is considering firing the current Miss USA, Tara Conner. Conner is 20, yet is accused of drinking alcohol. Since Miss USA is supposed to be a role model for girls of this country, the people of the pageant are not liking this behavior. There may or may not be other issues that the pageant has with Ms. Connor, but as of yet, the pageant officials aren't really commenting. The decision as to whether or not to replace her with the current runner-up should be made within a week. Pageants such as Miss Universe (the pageant in which Miss USA winners compete) and Miss America usually do have high standards, demonstrated by the 1984 winner of Miss America, Vanessa Williams. Williams was the first African-American crowned Miss America, but later resigned (many believe forcibly) as a result of re-surfaced Penthouse photographs. Is anyone really suprised about what they are considering? It is after all a pageant, and at the risk of sounding cliche, "image is everything."
