College Music Scholarships

So I'm just wondering...at a typical university, is it that hard to get a few thousand dollars for a music scholarship?  How good do I need to be?  I'm a violinist, by the way.  I'm not sure if I want to major in music, so I'm also wanting to see how much they'd give me just to play in their orchestra, without being a major.  Anyway, let's just say I want three thousand dollars per school year.  Would it be that hard to get?

I think that 3000 is a lot to ask for. Most scholarships are 1000-2000, depending on where you go, but for the average state university thats the average scholarship for anything.

for that type of thing, you would need to audition. You have to be able to play a little more than "Twinkle, Twinkle." A university music program in my city asks students to play Bach and mozart and to memorize the pieces. You'd have to be pretty good to get a huge scholarship. Try to get a music grant or something that will give you as much as you need.

Well, I am actually going through the same process you're going through. I auditioned at Winthrop University for voice, at Catawba College for Musical Theater, at North Carolina School of the Arts for acting, and at East Carolina for Musical Theater. I know I'm trying to get a scholarship in theater but I'm pretty sure that ussually theater scholarships reward less than music scholarships.Catawba offered me 2,500 and that scholarship is able to be renewed every year. I haven't heard from the others yet. But you should audition. you never really know.

If you do well in high school or community college, you can get a lot of scholarships for your achievements there. I haven't seen many scholarships for musicians, but there are plenty that are for everyone.
