Art and its definition

Hello all, my name is Taylor. I am a senior in high school. I am currently taking an AP English class, our class day usually consists of intelligent discussions on current events. We recently had a discussion on art and its definition. I personally have a right sided view on art in which a work must evoke a certain emotion in order to be considered art. Many of my peers feel that art can be anything, from a thin line drawn on a board to a majestic sonnet. I have spent hours on end talking with my peers and trying to make them understand that art itself needs to evoke some feeling and just drawing a line on a white board is not "good enough" to be called "art"
