I've been noticing recently that more than a few churches are now describing themselves as progressive, with some even using the word in their name. Here are just a few:
Antioch Progressive Church -- "Not equal giving, but equal sacrifice"
Reno First United Methodist -- "A progressive Christian church"
Epiphany Community Church -- "All are worthy, all are welcome"
Progressive Baptist Church -- In Alexandria, Louisiana
I think this is a great thing, and I hope it's the start of a trend. Research done after the 2004 presidential elections showed that affinity groups such as churches and business associations played a large role in the decision making process for a significant portion of the population.
If you are a member of a church, try to convince your church administration to describe the church as progressive. Put in in your mission statement and on your web site. For an example of a network of churches that are defining what it means to be a progressive church, check out The Center for Progressive Christianity.

What exactly is a progressive church? I've never heard of it before, but I hope it isn't a church that's sacrificing morals to fit into society. (That's what the name made me think.)
you're sort of only half right but looking at it wrong. progressive churches tend to see the most important morality as being in how we treat others and in helping the poor and oppressed around the world. that's really the only morality heavily emphasized by Jesus and the only morality worth defending. they may appear to "sacrifice" the traditional sexual "morality" that has people condemning and threatening gay or even sexually active unmarried people because those traditional views are wrong. The thing that's wrong with them is that they seem to encourage people to be angry and rejecting towards others and those kinds of views try to get people to change their behaviors. if you're not directly hurting somebody, you should not be under demand to change your behavior when the wealthy and powerful get away with murder. Anybody who doesn't see it that way doesn't get the spirit of the bible and that is why progressivism is so important. Also, progressive know better than to take a really superstitious view of the origins of the Bible and instead are inclined to be very knowledgable about modern Biblical scholarship.
