Unwatched Children

Isn't it amazing how some children are never watched, and yet nothing bad ever happens to them? For instance, in my town, there are these three children between the ages of 2 and 6 who always play in the road, thier parents never know where they are, and nothing bad ever happens. The smallest girl once stopped traffic in the middle of a busy highway two blocks from thier house, and the mother never even knew that the child was gone.

Now, I am not saying that something bad should happen to them simply because they are not being watched, or for any other reason. It's just that those parents who make sure that thier children are safe from harm and do the right thing - those are the ones whose children will often be kidnapped and injured or whatever. This just doesn't seem fair to me, as a mother who makes sure that her kids are safe.

Another problem with the same family is that the Department of Children and Families doesn't want to deal with them. The DCF will go into a clean, safe home and take children out of loving families, but won't take a child to a foster family where he/she will be watched and cared for if thier own family is not doing the job. The home and yard is filthy. If someone called DCF on me, they would probably take my children away for "observation." But they leave these poor kids in a mess, with no way out, when they could reasonably take them away and put them in with a foster family.

Does this make anyone else irate, or just me?
