Didn't know where to post this, so I went with the General section.
Anywho, I'm just wondering how many bloggers out there are participating in National Novel Writing Month during November.
If you've never heard of it (and it's quite new to me as well, so don't think me the expert in this situation) this is a sort of competition you have with yourself. A website sort of sponsors this effort, where you can create a username, hang with writers in your area and all over, as well as update your word count through the month of November. The goal is to complete a 50,000 word novel by the end of the month. You're not supposed to worry about editing or if it's "crap", you simply write to get to that word goal.
It sounded like a great challenge, so I signed up early this week. I'm finding others in my Yahoo writing critique group and on another writing forum that also sign up for this challenge, so I thought it would be interesting to see if many ProgUser's are interested, already signed up, or have done this in the past. (I know I've seen the badge around a few times in people's profile pictures....but maybe I'm just seeing how omnipresent Fallon is. :) )
The website to visit is HERE . I'm more than confidant that they explain this a lot better than I do.

Fallon heads up a writing group here (called The ProgressiveU Writer's Circle), where she's been posting about this for a while. I'm participating, though I haven't signed up on the official site yet.

I participated last year! It was a blast! And this year, I'm going to be insane and attempt TWO novels! My inner editor is NOT happy.
And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.

Ooh, ooh, pick me, pick me!!!
Poor inner editor....
You go girl! (don't tell anyone I used that phrase...) I can't believe you're going for TWO! Wow, you must have done well the last time around. Good luck with your endeavor.

Last time around, my novel ended at 40, 900 words. I had to do some serious word padding to win. ^^; And yeah, two.
Actually... maybe not. I'm getting the pre-NaNo jitters, am getting concerned over what I should write about, and had the brilliant idea to just write as many novels as I have ideas, so if I get stuck on one, I can work on another. Though... that probably won't work out as well...

I did NaNo last year (thanks to Fallon, MVenus, and Fanaile) and "lost." I also lost JulNo. But I think I might sign up again this November. Even though I haven't quite made it all the way to 50k, I write more in that month then I do EVER.
Besides, the novel I've been working on since last NaNo needs some love :)

Aw...give that novel some love!
Good luck to you too! I have no idea if I'll make the word count quota, as this is my first time participating, but I'll try my darndest. Good luck to you too!.
Does anybody wanna trade usernames and be writing buddies? Seems to be a common practice on all the forums I've seen that mention Nano.
Mine is Bridge. I'm so predictable.

Name trading it is! Then we can keep track of each others' word counts.
I'm predictable, too. Kinkatia happens to be my pen-name, so I use it everywhere.

Do you have to write a GOOD novel, or just a LONG novel? Is the goal to end up with a 50,000 word draft? Or a 50,000 word manuscript?
If it's a draft, I might try it. In spite of the homework I have to do.

Actually, this is the fun catch that makes this contest all the more realistic.
You have to write 50,000 words. The site stresses QUANTITY over QUALITY. This seems to be a great way to break through the block that makes you want to go back and edit, or the similar block that keeps you from moving forward because you're afraid your book is crap. Quantity first. Quality can come later, like in December, so if you plan to make this a "real" book for sale you could do the necessary adjustments then.

We'll have our own underground sub-community of Progressive U Nanites. Yes. I made that up.
