Connecticut’s Supreme Court ruled Friday that gay couples have the right to marry, making the state the third behind Massachusetts and California to legalize such unions through the courts.
Check it out! Three down (or four, if you count New York)...Forty-seven to go!

I heard that on Wisconsin Public Radio today, and I missed the part about Connecticut. And it confused me for a few minutes because I was like "Wisconsin did that...?" I love my state and all but I just didn't see that happening 2 years after they banned same-sex marriage. But then they said Connecticut again and I understood.
Thanks for the link for that! WPR is good for hearing the headline and summary parts of stories, but not so much the whole thing. It's nice to have an actual article to read.

My week in the MidSouth has made this kind of news SUCH a relief. Down here, you'd think we were screwed everywhere.
Off to Atlanta tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see what the climate (not weather-related) there is...it's been "hotlanta" for some time now. Perhaps the work of the GLBT community there will spread into the rest of the south someday?

Ah, yes.. let us all celebrate in jubilation the achievements made true today in Connecticut. I suppose we can all be happy in the fact that more people are allowed now to suffer under the misery of the institution that is marriage. :-(

I thought that gay marriage was legal in Vermont too, am I wrong?
...that are defined by State laws as being the "same" as marriage, but they aren't technically "marriages," and in practice really aren't treated the same (even though the law says they are).

I did a little dance when I heard, although I am straight. My state makes me proud even when @$$es out in CA are trying to get rid of same-sex marriage so soon after its inception. Not to say that everyone there wants to get rid of it, just the bigoted people.

That is absolutely the best news I have heard all day!!!!! Unfortunately, California has (at least for now) banned same-sex marriage. I am grieving. I have spent quite a bit of time in heated discussion and in tears over the matter.
