I lack of authentic understanding
Hmmm...to incorporate all the malfunctions, I think I will have to say critical thinking skills ie the ability to think things through before acting. This leads to impatience and random craziness that is troubling our whole country now. Maybe this is an education or parenting thing, but we are all responsible.

Just to encorporate on what you said, I also believe that it is a fundamental lack of creating a solution that will benefit all citizens of all social classes and beliefs, which really does require analytical thinking skills.
It's quite a difficult decision to pinpoint the cause of so many problems into one main problem.
Actually i believe the biggest issue facing us today is stubborness. we like to stay on one idea without ever growing out of it and learning from it; that is why i said a lack of authentic understanding beforehand.
nothing remains the same and that should unclude ideas.
