Well, Election season is really going in full force. To tell you the truth, I'm a little surprised we haven't already been overrun with blog entries regarding the candidates... or at least heartfelt please regarding whether or not you should vote for Candidate X because "he's the best" or whatever reasons you have.

Which brings me to my question... What do you listen to most when you vote? Do you care whether or not a candidate cheated on his wife? Do you care if they got their job through nepotism or favoritism or because they had the most money? Do you care if they pay fewer taxes than you? Do you vote based on gender or race? Or are you strictly about the issues?

Here you go: vote for Ron Paul!  He's the best!

I guess I don't care about candidates' personal lives much.  I vote almost entirely on principles.  So I picked the option about matching philosophies, even if the candidate has little chance of winning.  I'm not going to vote for the "lesser evil" anymore.  I'm tired of all the evil, no matter if it's "lesser."

I love Ron as well as most of his philosophies but the issues are also important to me.

Personally, the only time that I give a hoot about a candidates personal life is when that candidate makes an issue of MY personal life.  If a politician presents himself or herself as a "family values" candidate, and runs on a platform that proposes polices that intrude into the private lives of citizens (anti-gay marriage, anti-adoption for same-sex couples, criminalizing same-sex behavior, etc.), then I think that their private lives are fair game.

I think we should always insist that our leaders lead by example.  If for example, they think we should  live with less or more expensive energy, they should always be required to go first.  I'm anxious also to see the newly proposed insider trading laws for Congress passed so that they live by the same rules as the rest of us..  And of course they should have the same healthcare system as the rest of us rather than their gold-plated fully vested after one-term plan funded for life by taxpayers.

I was happy to see Senator "Wide Stance" taken down a few years ago.  He richly deserved it.

I take it, that at least with respect to their positions on family values which are probably pretty much identical, you are OK with Mitt Romney who seems to have mostly "walked the talk" with respect to his own personal life and not so OK with Newt Gingrich who has made pretty much a disgusting mess of his personal life.

BY "OK"  I don't mean that you agree with them but that you can respect their personal moral beliefs which while different from your own, are shared by a very large chunk of the populace.

I wouldn't necessarily count Mitt Romney among the most credible candidates when it comes to these issues, but that's because of his apparent inability to present him self consistently and honestly in relation to his positions on ANY issue.  But at least with Mr. Romney I am less inclined to immediately throw up in my mouth every time he opens his mouth on the subject than I am with rank hypocrites like Newt Gingrich..

I vote on feeling. I am rooting for Ron Paul because he has been at the same issues for years such as the economy and still fighting for them. He is a Constitutionalist who has served in our military and has worked in the working class. These kind of things are important to me: making sure they have experience dealing with the "real world". I also look for ways they will make themselves more like the average US citizen such as Dr. Paul cutting his own pay. We need someone who is willing to humble themselves and take it is a job, not as a great chance to earn tons of money or as a hobby.

I like to watch them closely and see what they say, then I look in to their background and see what their views are. Then see if they have connections to corporations, worked for any  etc. And there views on "current problems" or what they think are current problems. I could careless about cheating on their significant other. I think  it is their own personal business. And also I dislike it when they have commercials where they are slandering their rival. I think they should pay more taxes, they get paid way more than I do.
