A New Perspective on Progress

Tagged:  •    •    •

I've been thinking a lot about what progress means to me since that bonus point opportunity came and went. And today, it hit me. Progress is different for each person. Each person's unique perspective on the world gives them a different perspective on what progress really means.

Giving up is so much Easier

Giving up is so much easier than moving forward. It is easy to give up. All you have to do is say the words "I give up." After this, no more effort needs to be put forth and you are free. But if you actually want to progress through life you just can't give up. If you always give up and never try then you really will not do anything productive in your life.

The So-Called Hip-Hop Soldier

Tagged:  •

As I sit here and listen to the oh so hard rhymes of Common's "I Used to Love H.E.R.," I just can't understand what happened to my beloved hip hop. I'm just asking for one rapper to step forward, and leave all your pretenses of being a soldier of the streets behind you, and actually become the hip hop artist that fights for your people.

Sugarplums and Polygamist Colonies...

So this is my first, so bear with me as I fumble around for a way to start this whole blogging phenom. But my question is: who cares what polygamists do with their kids?

What Improvement Have We Bloggers Made?

Dictionary.com defines "progressive" as "favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform, as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are; making progress toward better conditions; characterized by such progress, or by continuous improvement." I believe that Progressive U is really helping us to be progressive in our thinking.

Can one person make a difference?

A young woman dying of AIDS lay in the bed before me. Staring at her frail, disease-stricken body, the words of a family friend echoed in my head, "Why is Kellie going to Africa? Does she really think that one person can make a difference?"

define progress

Definition of progress: 1 a: a royal journey marked by pomp and pageant: a state procession b: a tour or circuit made by an official c: an expedition, journey, or march through a region
2: a forward or onward movement
3: gradual betterment

For what this website is trying to do I would say that the second and third definitions are absolutely true.

On Progress

From the outset, it must be understood that any notion of progress is a subjective one. Progress is perceived movement from one perceived status to another perceived status, where the perceiver considers the final status to be more desirable than the original.
