Technology. Has it really made the world better?

When I was 11 the internet had just started to spread its wings and take off. I remember the huge bulky cell phones that were similar in size to a standard cordless home phone. Computers were bulky also and DOS was popular. The internet was created by the military, which some of you may not have known.

Is Facebook Causing The End Of College Reunions?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •

Five-year reunions (and other year reunions) are seen as an expensive necessity for almost anyone. There aren’t a lot of people who thrive on seeing those who they didn’t want or need to stay in contact with after their years in school with. But, a lot of people still go. Why?

Are we a tech junkie generation?

Tagged:  •    •    •

"It's a wonder the teenager can function these days..." A common phrase used by generations older than 25. Such a broad statement that can basically mean just about anything. I am actually referring to the available, advanced, and futuristic technology we utilize in today's society. Yes it is true, we can multi-task faster then most.

We Don't Realize How Our World Is Changing

Tagged:

Most of us here on ProgressivU are the younger generation, still in college trying to choose a major and trying to pay back debt. I happen to fit in this category. What amazes me is that like I keep thinking we know all the technology thats out there because its our generation; however, they keep on coming up with new things.

The Future of Meat is Shmeat. Would You Eat It?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

When it comes to food, I am more regressive than progressive. I believe that my food should be recognizable as food. It should come from a natural source. I have that luxury. I live in the United States, where food choices abound, and viable agricultural land makes up much of the country. Other countries are less fortunate. People in a resource-poor nation may welcome food in whatever form it takes...even if that form is "shmeat."

What is Civilization really about?

Today, the economics/government teacher brought to our attention just how mythical our belief in privacy and security has been in the states.

The farther up we go... the farther back we have to fall

As a whole, we have become overly dependant on not just fossil fuels but on technology and creature comforts these days. Everytime you turn around there is a new device intended to make life easier, or limit how much effort you'd actually have to put into a task.

Technology dependent?

Tagged:  •

Are we dependent upon technology? I constantly find myself sitting next to someone, and texting at the same time. Is this becoming an issue? People always having their cell phones on them at all times, and then if the battery goes dead and you're not near a charger you freak out?
