No one knows his name, but everyone around here knows him on sight. He is shorter than I am, maybe 5'6" with graying hair and a beard that looks more like he's simply forgotten to shave for several days than a true attempt to keep a beard. His eyes are this pale grey color that, while expressive, always seems to look vacant.

play is the thing: Lack of imaginary play in children

Tagged:  •    •

As an educator I notice today's children have very little imagination and do not know how to play. All of this started around the invention of video games. I don't remember when it came out but I remember the old Atari 64 game system. We used to have it but of course that's gone along with the old Beta Machines for video cassettes. LOL.

My neighbor always says, “If you don’t know Spanish already, you’d better learn it, because the Latinos saved Phillips; we owe them that much.” In the 1990’s, a wave of immigration increased the Hispanic population of the Phillip’s neighborhood by over 500% (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000). Today, once vacant Lake Street retail space is occupied by Latino-owned businesses.

Nature of Education

In today’s world, we live in a sea of information that is just waiting for our gain. Some of us acquire this information from books, or other literary sources, but most of us obtain this from years of experience, and most importantly from an education. Unfortunately, not everyone in this world is lucky or eligible enough to obtain this knowledge.
