The article Q&A with Sputnik appeared on October 3, 2007 on the BBC. It gives a brief history of Sputnik and tells of its affects on the U.S. and the rest of the world. While most of the USSR didn’t make much of Sputnik’s launch, most of the world was very surprised, probably because they believed that the U.S. was ahead in the space race.

I just completed my week with the High School Aerospace Scholars program at Johnson Space Center in Houston. While I cannot say that the events were wholly educational, or even satisfying, I will say that one of the speakers made my week worthwhile: former Flight Director Randy Stone.
