During pregnancy the baby that is being harbored is a very vulnerable being. What the mother eats, the baby eats; what the mother breathes, the baby breathes.

There has been a proposed smoking ban in the state of Michigan, I've heard that it passed. I am not a smoker. Everywhere I read, smokers complain about their freedom to smoke wherever they want to and how the smoking ban is violating their freedom. I personally find this smoking ban beneficial. The smoker's "freedom" violates the nonsmokers freedom to BREATHE.

Dear Smoker,

This is a letter to kindly request that you discontinue blowing smoke in my face. If necessary, perhaps you could stand or walk downwind from me. I do not mean to offend you, but as you might have heard, smoking is very hazardous to the health. I do not wish to be subjected to your second hand smoke.

Today I am going to attempt to accomplish what, in my eyes, may be the most "progressive" thing I will do this year. I just attached a nicotine patch to my arm in the hopes that this will truly be my last attempt at throwing out the cigarettes for good.

This is the more local aspect of smoking not too long ago a law was passed in my time that made smoking in bars illegal and also demanded that people had to be at least 5 feet from the entrance of a business if they were to smoke outside.

I don't mean to get on smokers too much with this but if I do please know that it is nothing personal to smokers. Just my true feelings so if I offend you know that it is not intended.

During the summer, I take walks in the streets of Manhattan. It is very crowded sometimes. There are people who smoke on the side of the street or while walking. Sometimes when they blow their smoke, they blow it in my face. I cough and curse at them under my breath. I don’t understand how they can stand to smoke. I also don't understand how they can smoke in the awful summer heat.
