I believe that there are criteria that should be used to decide if a marriage should happen.
I believe that the two people in question should love each other; that the union is done to please only the two involved, not any outside parties; that both parties should have to undergo a test of sorts, to determine their maturity levels.
I beleive that it was yesterday that the Matthew Shepard Act went before the Senate. Today I received an email from the Human Rights Campaign saying "the U.S. Senate has just passed the Matthew Shepard Act!"

Last summer, when I was making preparations to give a workshop on queer issues for allies, my co-presenter frantically found me five minutes before the workshop was due to start.
"What does bi-curious, fluid, downe, queer, questioning, and pansexual mean?" he asked, worriedly. That's when I realized that the terms weren't in as widespread use as I thought they were. That, and a thread on my ProgressiveU blog made me decide to write this primer.
