About a year ago I was assigned, in my English class, to write a paper on a controversial topic. This meant nothing to me until I began to think of what affected me the most. I realized that homosexual marriage was sore subject in our country and after some objections by my mother I began my research on the subject.
This is my understanding of the gay marriage debate. Homosexuals feel that they should be entitled to have some form of civil union, because as American citizens the government has a responsibility to protect them in there relationship (for instance, so one partner can’t suddenly leave and take everything with no legal intervention).
