My brother Jonny and I used to be close. He's a year younger than me and I can remember when we spent days and days playing together; we were best friends as children. I was always on his side, he was always on mine. We were family and we took the blame together, shared the joy together, everything. In our family it was Chelsea and Jonny, the young ones, the kids.
For just about all of my life, I have lived in apartments and in other people's homes. Even when I had moved out on my own, nothing was ever truly mine. I was constantly in situations that threatened the need to move on once again.
So I was watching Pope Benedict XVI's arrival in the States yesterday. I'm no Catholic, but I was really impressed by not only his following and massive crowds of fans, but the messages he preaches. It's refreshing to hear someone talk about the obvious moral shortcomings of this country, and that the fault lies not with our government, but ourselves.
I’m not in high school any more (thank goodness), but I would like to examine this subject seeing as it’s that time of year again.
Almost all the way through the semester, and by now you should have a basic idea of what is exected of you in any given class that you are taking. You know if you are going to need to bring lots of extra paper or if you can probably get your homework done from spanish during your english lecture.
If you haven’t already, eventually, you are going to leave home. Exciting! Well, for a while. Then you realize you have no idea what you’re doing. Maybe you should have tried the dorm life first? Maybe living in the dorms wasn’t a good enough transition between living at home and your first apartment?
Darfur.
You can almost smell the death from here—the stench of sweat and blood hanging thickly in the air. Awareness is not the problem, nor is apathy. Inaction is in fact the culprit.
