Is Reading a new EVIL?

Tagged:  •

When I was younger, I read every book my elementary school library had. My father called me a couch potato, and tried to bribe me to do something else. It never worked, and he eventually gave up, accepting how much I love it. Then one summer we started going to the public library. I loved it, and we went fairly regularly, about once a week. I had enough books to last me through the summer.

Manga/Comics and My Personal Prejudices

Prejudice comes in all shapes and sizes, and surprisingly, mine is for the literary world. It's probably a natural thing for a reader to be drawn away from certain books or topics--simply because they think they know what they like already. Some people are Western-aholics, while others prefer to escape into fantasy or science fiction.

Life without a Computer

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

Recently I went about two days without my computer and I have to say it was pretty good. Without a computer I could not check my stocks, email, news, charge my ipod(which had zero battery life during this time), or watch any of the movies and shows I had on my hard drive. The time I would usually devote to my PC I spent reading, writing, and doing my homework.

Reading is Good

Too many kids today don’t like to read. Which, for me personally, I don’t understand. I love reading, it’s a way to disconnect with what’s going on around you, yet still be thinking. For as long as I’ve been able to read I’ve loved reading. I think that more kids would like to read if they grew up with having a story read to them.

The Reading Challenge! Will you take it?

Today was just one of those days when my professor gets into speech mode. Today's speech was about how my professor went to this leadership conference and saw the likes of Steven Spielberg there as well. The challenge presented at this conference was to read a book a day for a year. People in the media field must do a lot of reading, you see, so this was not an outlandish thing to suggest.

The Curse of Reading

Tagged:  •

Reading enters you into a whole different world. Maybe this is why I have such trouble with it. I get very distracted when I read, a whenever I do read at a sitting, I can never keep my eyes in the book for more than 2 minutes. Really that's how bad it is. But I guess why I'm like that is because I feel like there's something else in the "real world" that I'm missing out on.

Diary by Chuck Palahniuk

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

“Everything is a diary….Everything is important. Every detail. We just don’t know why yet.”

When I bought Diary, I thought I’d made a mistake and gotten an uninteresting book. The mistake I truly made was judging the book by the description on the back cover.
